Loss Prevention Specialist (5/30/08)

Construction Site & Safety Professional (4/9/08)

Establishes and maintains effective work and communication relationships within departments, ensuring efficient day to day operational decisions can be made.

Reviews new construction, equipment, vendors, and process improvements from environmental and safety compliance perspective.

Incumbent will be the plant Facility Security Officer as required under MARSEC.

General Summary: The Assistant Director of Environmental, Health Safety (EH and S) reports to the Associate Director of the EH and S Department. The primary purpose of this position is to work with the Associate Director of EH and S on Environmental Health Safety issues. This position is responsible for oversight of programs that positively affect the safety health of employees, students, visitors of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Major Responsibilities:

Hazardous Waste (RCRA) Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position may include the generation, handling, disposal or other management of hazardous wastes. These wastes could include, but are not limited to, chemical or paint wastes, regulated medical wastes, universal wastes, electronic wastes, used oil or any other waste material that is determined to be a hazardous waste.

The person in this position is required to complete a program of classroom instruction on-the-job training that will instruct them to perform hazardous waste duties in a way that ensures RIT's compliance with the requirements of the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA). This training program will include initial training within 6 months of assignment in this position annual refresher training.

Assists in the delivery of safety training for insured, provides assistance in development of hazard specifications, and makes recommendations for updates to client Safety and Security Program manual. Builds and maintains productive relationships with clients, underwriting and service teams, broker/agent community, claim department and other staff.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years construction work or related experience.
Ability to understand principles, practices and procedures of loss control including casualty, workers compensation, operational characteristics, services and activities of a loss control and safety programs. Basic legal principles pertaining to liability inspection and worker's compensation issues.
Experienced in producing work on a personal computer; proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Driving record and valid driver’s license that would allow for driving on company business including overnight travel within and outside of assigned region.
